If you’re using a networking site like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, or any of the others, and you’re wondering if Twilio is being used by them, you’re right in thinking that they might be. But what exactly does this technology do? Does Facebook use Twilio to send text messages to their customers or to perform some other kind of business-related function? And if they do use Twilio, how can we benefit from this? In this article, we’ll take a quick look at the answer to these questions and what Twilio can do for us.
The way Twilio works is that it enables you to talk to someone via their mobile phone. The way this works is rather simple; the user types out a message on their computer, and then places it onto their phone’s LCD screen where it is viewed by the Twilio network. Once there, all they have to do is press send, which sends the message out to the people on their network. That’s really it.

The good news about this, of course, is that the people on your network will never even know that you’re using a Twilio phone. Except, that’s what Twilio is all about. If your company uses the Internet as one of its primary ways of communicating with its customers, Twilio can help you cut down costs even more. Because Twilio only handles calls made on its network, you don’t have to pay out for international long distance charges, or extra long distance charges for handling voice traffic. This is especially good news, if you operate a call center.
One of the first major benefits to using a Twilio phone system is the ability to send and receive messages from anywhere in the world. Now, when you think about that for a second, the ability to be able to use a phone service that can be used anywhere in the world is going to be pretty incredible. You’ll be able to use your cell phone in the office, at home, and even while you’re on the road!
Another thing that’s great is that Twilio works extremely well with PowerPoint presentations. When your Twilio phone connects to a computer, it will also allow you to make presentations. This means you no longer have to rely on the company’s printer for printing out business cards, expense reports, etc. Instead, you can create these documents right from your computer at work.
You can also set up alerts so that customers are sent an email whenever there is a change in your business status. For example, if you’re in the process of changing the hours of operation, and you put the change on Facebook, any people that are at your address before you change it will be sent an email. They will also be alerted by email, so they will always be up to date on your business operations. This also cuts down on customer confusion, as they won’t get a notification when your hours of operation change, but will receive a notification when something else changes instead.
Twilio does have more limitations than I mentioned above. It is limited to cellular numbers only, so if you have a home telephone number, and a business telephone number, you will not be able to use this application. However, if you do have a landline, you will be able to use it. The reason is because Twilio only connects to the computers on either end of the call, not the phones themselves. Therefore, even if someone calls you on your landline and your mobile phone at home, you will not be able to make a call back to them through Twilio.
Finally, Twilio is not compatible with Blackberrys or other types of smart phones. It is also not compatible with VoIP phones. However, if you purchase one of these phones soon, you might be able to hook it up with Twilio in the future. Right now, however, there is no word on when Twilio will be compatible with smart phones. Hopefully we will see a change in the future.
